Be The
Purple Fish
My favorite quote on earth comes from Albert Einstein. He reportedly said:
"The definition of insanity is doing
the same thing over and over and expecting different results."
Ah, Al.....
So true!
I think that we have been, and will continue to be, in a trend where the same just doesn’t cut it anymore.
I have personally noticed a much more aggressive and creative approach in the resume submission process.
Just the other day, I received a resume and a cover letter. Why bring it up? What made it memorable? Well, on the top of the cover letter, the applicant attached a color picture print out of a cows grazing on a farm.
Peculiar?
Yup.
Relevant?
Nope.
But so what?
I happen to be extremely sympathetic to all of the efforts made out there to be noticed and appreciated the eye catching stimulation. Doesn’t guarantee anyone a job but I know that person put a little extra thought and effort into getting the job.
I don’t mind coming across a few colored bullet points drawing my eye to your job related experience or even some pastel shades of resumes.
You must do whatever you can in order to get noticed (without looking like a Looney bird of course).
Hiring managers all over are virtually drowning in a sea of resume submissions.
This is why you must now become THE PURPLE FISH!
Please don’t become the Blinking-Motel-Sign-Fish but anything even slightly different in description or content could be a foot-in-the-door eye catcher.
Use your own personal creativity and imagination to market yourself.
Take if from the top and try to come up with something that could possibly grab that hiring manager within the first few seconds of reviewing your resume.
Instant is key. We are all slightly afflicted with A.D.D. these days.
When
swimming with many fish, make sure that YOU are the one to get caught.
Make them pay attention!!
